Filming on the Grounds
Beginning in 1984, the grounds were used by various film companies and crews. Over twenty films were produced here between 1984 and 1989. On average, between six and eight film companies used the location for shooting annually, in addition to advertising productions. Television and film school production groups also occasionally made use of the site.
The former hospital buildings were also used by police SWAT teams for training in the 1980s. In 1988, the Government of Ontario designated the grounds of the former hospital as a heritage property under the Ontario Heritage Act.
